Freelance Writer

Welcome to my tiny corner of the web

Dan Voyce
is a thirty-something writer from Huddersfield in the United Kingdom. A roleplaying enthusiast for over twenty years, Dan has finally decided to take the plunge and try his hand at professional writing as a freelance author of RPG articles, supplements, adventures, and fiction.

Recent Projects

Dan is currently working to raise his profile in the RPG community and looking for work. Although recent projects have seen him concentrating on Dungeons & Dragons game in various incarnations, he is keen to branch out into other systems.

Halls of the Mountain King: 'Heartsblood Forge'
Dungeons & Dragons, both 3rd and 4th edition versions

"You fear to go into those mines. The dwarves delved too greedily and too deep. You know what they awoke in the darkness... shadow and flame."

- JRR Tolkein, Lords of the Rings

Halls of the Mountain King is dungeon delve that takes the players from the snowy summit of Mount Reigar to its most sacred depths and most corrupted shadows.

Inspired by Tolkein's tales of Moria but moving beyond the oft-rewritten cliches of dungeon adventuring, Halls forces the players to face corruption not just in the depths but in their own hearts, as they make some hard choices that can either doom or save the troubled mountain.

'The Howling City'
Kobold Quarterly Magazine (#11)

“I yearned to enter this fascinating yet repellent city, and besought the bearded man to land me at the stone pier. He denied my wish… saying "therein walk only demons and mad things that are no longer men, and the streets are white with unburied bones.”

- H.P. Lovecraft, The White Ship

Among the tenebrous tunnels of the lands below there is a cave whose very air seems to wail and scream. Winds drawn down from distant skies are funnelled through hairline cracks, producing a demoniacal keening that drives both man and beast insane. Here the Forsaken make their home in a riot of frantic madness and deafening cacophony they call Farragum, the howling city.
